Holiday adventures, sunflowers and beachside evenings | Gold Coast Family Photographer |
My three kids finish up school late November and then have two long hot summer months at home. It’s a massive change of routine from school days and it takes a few weeks to find our feet and settle into it. I slow down with work and make the most of them being at home with me. Our favourite thing to do is pack the picnic basket and dress in swimmers and head off in search of somewhere new to explore. It’s so much easier going out alone with them now that they’re a little older (3, 5 and 6). I often take my camera along as I did this day.
We spent an afternoon with my sisters at the sunflower fields in Kingscliff at Farm and Co, we swung in the hammocks to escape the scorching heat, ate ice blocks while they dripped and melted away far too quickly and got covered in red dirt from the beautiful rich soil that covers the fields. The kids were so filthy by the end of it we found a little beach inlet on the way home and spent the late afternoon there washing off and cooling down.
No where to be, no schedules to follow, my little ones by my side. My idea of a perfect day.
I always reflect on having them home and that in the whole scheme of things, I will probably only have another 6-7 summers with them before they’ll want to be off with their friends and doing their own thing.
Photos of these kind of days mean everything to me and the life we have together.
“Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.” Aaron Siskind
Image Info – images taken with a Canon 5D Mark 111 and my 50mm 1.2 Canon L lens. Freelensing technique used throughout a bunch of these shots as well (which is where I have held my lens next to my camera but it is actually detached. Gives you a slice of focus and a tilt shift effect). Jump into the comments below if you have any questions or comments, always happy to help x
