Why your story matters
We will begin by delving in to why your story matters and the importance of preserving your memories. As mums we are often the 'story keepers' of our family. The ones that take images, sort them and hopefully turn them into something tangible and lasting. This is your legacy and we are here to equip you to document it in a powerful, creative and honest way.
Camera basics & composition
Do you have a camera that has the ability to be used in manual mode but you pretty much took it out of the box, flicked it onto auto and haven’t ever changed it? Maybe you’ve dabbled in the manual settings but it’s all a little overwhelming to get your head around? We are going to give you the low down on how to shoot in manual mode and the incredible ability it gives you to create amazing images. This is aimed at beginners (not photographers who already have a grip of manual) and will cover all the basics in a super easy to understand way. You will then get hands-on practice with your own camera so you can give it a go and get shooting right away. You will also learn all about perspective and composition and how they can enhance your images and take your storytelling to the next level.
Seeing the light
Light is everything when it comes to photography. We are going to cover all the different types of light that you have around you and how to harness them well to create beautiful images of your own family. Every home has light, no matter how dark or uninteresting you might think your home is, we will take you on a light walk and help you to see light in a whole new way!
Hands on practice sessions
Throughout the day we will have a couple of sessions where we will practice shooting in a variety of light and you will be able to get to know your camera and how to use it in manual mode. Bec and Jo will both be on hand all day to help out, answer your questions and get you feeling more confident with using your camera!
Memory keeping and photo storage
Shooting with intention and an end goal in mind is a huge part of the heart behind this workshop. We want to equip you with the skills to take beautiful images and make these memories tangible in the form of photo books, prints and other mediums so that your legacy is preserved and not just sitting around on dusty hard drives and in the ‘cloud’ somewhere. Memory keeping does not need to be super time consuming and overwhelming. We will give you ideas about how to stay on top of your digital clutter, keep your images organised and backed up securely and turn them in to beautiful lasting heirloom treasures for your family.
Editing 101
Editing can take your images to a whole new level. We will give you a rundown of how and what we use to edit and a few different options that you have depending on your budget and what works best for your family. You will get some more in-depth editing videos to head home with so you can sit and watch and learn at your own pace.
Our favourite tools and resources
We will leave you will a bunch of our favourite resources and tools that we use and will see you over in our private Facebook page so you can connect, ask questions and share your latest images! We can’t wait to see what you create. Helping you feel supported beyond the workshop is a huge goal of ours so once the day is over, we will be active in the group on an ongoing basis.
Jam packed workbook & online group
If you want to sit back and just take it all in on the day, you can do just that as we will be sending you home with a workbook jam-packed with everything that we cover. We will also have a private facebook group for you to join so we can continue chatting, sharing and learning together.

Can I come if I am a photographer?
This workshop is not aimed at photographers in business and we will not be covering any kind of biz related content. If you would like to learn more about the fundamentals of your camera and light, then this workshop may be right for you. If you would like specific business mentoring, Bec offers photography mentoring on a one-on-one basis.
Why is this for mums? Do I have to have children to attend?
This is our first workshop and we will be focusing a lot on how to document your own children at home which is why our workshop is aimed at mothers.
Do I need a camera and should I bring it?
Yes! This workshop is aimed at those that have a digital camera (not just a phone) but a camera that has the ability to be used in manual mode. Bring it along on the day as we will help you learn your own camera and you will have the opportunity for lots of hands on practice during the day.
I'm not very tech savvy and have no idea about the technical side of photography.
Don't worry, you don't need to have any prior knowledge of how to use your camera. We will be covering all the basics in a simple and easy to grasp way and you will go home with a workbook so you can refer back to that whenever you need to.
Ticket payment and refunds
Once your ticket is purchased it is transferrable to someone else if you cannot attend. Full refunds are not available within two weeks of the event date.
